Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda Arrested

COLOMBO (News 1st): Former Navy Commander, Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda, was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption a short while ago.

This is in connection with an ongoing investigation into the enlistment of Yoshitha Rajapaksa as an executive officer in the Sri Lanka Navy by altering the required qualifications, and subsequently sending him for training at the Britannia Royal Naval College by misappropriating government funds.

Although Karannagoda had been summoned to the Bribery Commission on the 16th and 22nd of June to provide a statement regarding this matter, he did not appear before the commission.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was arrested in connection with the same incident on the 17th of June and was released on three personal bails of 500,000 rupees each after being produced in court.
