COLOMBO (News 1st) – The Kuda Ganga, a tributary of the Kalu Ganga, continues to remain at a minor flood level in the Millakanda area.
The Department of Irrigation has advised residents in the Bulathsinhala, Madurawala and Palindanuwara Divisional Secretariat divisions to remain vigilant regarding the flood situation.
Meanwhile, early landslide warnings have been issued for Kalutara, Ratnapura and Nuwara Eliya districts.
The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has urged the public in affected areas to exercise caution and remain alert.
Meanwhile, The Department of Meteorology says that showers or thundershowers may occur during the afternoon or night in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North Western provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Wind speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour may occur at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern and North Central provinces, and in the districts of Hambantota and Trincomalee.
Other parts of the island may also experience fairly strong winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour.
Meanwhile, sea areas extending from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Kankesanthurai, Mannar, Colombo, Galle and Hambantota, off the coast of the island, could experience wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometres per hour.
The Department of Meteorology has advised the fishing and naval communities to remain vigilant and exercise caution while engaging in activities at sea.
