COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s women’s cricket team has departed the island to take part in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, marking the beginning of what is expected to be a highly competitive international campaign.
The 10th edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup is set to be hosted in England, bringing together the world’s top cricketing nations in a tournament that promises high-intensity matches and global attention.
A total of 12 teams will compete in the tournament, with the initial stage divided into two groups, Group A and Group B.
Led by captain Chamari Athapaththu, Sri Lanka has been placed in Group B, where they will face strong opposition in the preliminary round.
Sri Lanka is scheduled to play five matches during the group stage, with their opening game set to take place on the 12th, against hosts England in Birmingham, a match expected to test their readiness early in the tournament.
Following the opener, Sri Lanka will go on to face New Zealand, West Indies, Ireland, and Scotland, in what is shaping up to be a challenging group campaign.
