COLOMBO (News 1st) – A programme has been launched by the Export Development Board (EDB) in collaboration with the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA) to increase the export of locally manufactured and other pharmaceutical products from Sri Lanka.
Chairman of the Export Development Board, Mangala Wijesinghe, said the initiative is being implemented under the Sri Lanka National Export Development Plan (NEDP).
According to the Chairman of the EDB, Mangala Wijesinghe, the current income generated from the export of pharmaceutical products from Sri Lanka amounts to less than USD 6Mn.
Wijesinghe pointed out that obtaining quality certifications for pharmaceutical products has been an issue in order to cater to foreign markets.
Accordingly, in recent meetings held with the Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority (NMRA), Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, ways of obtaining quality certificates were discussed.
The Chairman of the EDB, Mangala Wijesinghe, revealed that it has been planned to target USD 100 Mn in income from the export of pharmaceutical products from Sri Lanka.
