Gazzette Issued for Recruitment of Additional 3,000 Student Nurses to Strengthen National Nursing Workforce

COLOMBO (News 1st) –

A gazette notification has been issued for the recruitment of an additional 3,000 student nurses, the Health Ministry has announced.

The recruitment is part of a broader plan to achieve the target of 13,600 new nurses within the five-year period from 2025 to 2029.

Students who have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations in Science and Mathematics streams in the years 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 are eligible to apply.

Applications can be submitted within a one-month period until June 30 via the Ministry of Health’s official website, www.health.gov.lk.

Following interviews to select eligible candidates, the selected applicants are expected to commence student nursing training later this year.

According to current health sector data, a total workforce of 43,553 nursing officers is currently serving in Sri Lanka’s public health system.
