Over 160,000 Candidates Apply for Teacher Recruitment Examination: MOE

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Education says that 163,433 candidates have applied for the competitive examination to recruit graduates into Sri Lanka Teachers' Service this year.

The ministry stated that among them are 66,991 applicants already in the public service, while 96,442 are external candidates.

The Ministry also noted that 323 candidates with special needs have applied for the examination.

The competitive examination, held to fill Sinhala, Tamil and English medium teacher vacancies in national and provincial schools across the country, was conducted yesterday at 1,048 examination centers islandwide.

The Ministry further said that although the Department of Examinations had planned a recruitment exam for graduate teachers in the public service in 2023, it was suspended due to three fundamental rights petitions filed before the Supreme Court and one case filed before the Court of Appeal.
