Xi says Taiwan is the most important issue in China-US relations

China’s Xinhua news agency reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that the “Taiwan question is the most important issue in China-US relations” during his talks with Trump.

If the issue is handled “properly”, both the US and China could enjoy a stable relationship, Xi said. Otherwise, “the two countries will have clashes and even conflicts, putting the entire relationship in jeopardy”.

Taiwan independence and peace in the Taiwan Strait are as “irreconcilable as fire and water”, Xi added.
