Death Row Inmate Linked to Amarakeerthi Murder Dies

COLOMBO (News 1st); An inmate has died after falling from a building inside the Welikada Prison.

Prisons Spokesperson and Commissioner A.C. Gajanayake said the deceased inmate was one who had been sentenced to death in connection with the murder of former Member of Parliament Amarakeerthi Athukorala and had filed an appeal against the sentence.

The deceased has been identified as a 29-year-old resident of Pasyala.

Investigations into the incident are currently underway.
