COLOMBO (News 1st);The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has approved an 18% increase in electricity tariffs for the second and third quarters of the year.
At a press conference held in Colombo, PUCSL Chairman K.P.L. Chandralal stated that despite the hike, it would not affect 95% of electricity consumers in the country.
The Chairman further explained that consumers will benefit from a Rs. 15 billion subsidy provided by the government for electricity bills.
Accordingly, he confirmed that there will be no price increase for domestic consumers who use fewer than 180 units of electricity.
