COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Department for Registration of Persons (DRP) has issued an urgent warning regarding a group of scammers attempting to infiltrate personal information and commit financial fraud under the guise of collecting data for Digital Identity Cards.

According to the department, scammers are using a mobile application and specific phone numbers to carry out these fraudulent activities.

The DRP highlighted that calls are being made from numbers designed to mimic official lines.

The following numbers have been identified as part of the scam:

Landlines: 0115226126

Mobile Numbers: 0771167739 and 0742756098

The scammers are also directing citizens to a fraudulent website—https://drpgov-lk.com—which has been designed
to look nearly identical to the official Department website.

The Department for Registration of Persons clarified that no such registration process is currently being conducted via phone calls or mobile apps.

The public is strictly advised not to provide personal or financial information to anyone calling from the aforementioned numbers and advised to refrain fro, accessing or entering data into the fake web link provided by these individuals.

The department urges the public to remain vigilant and only rely on official government communication channels for identity registration matters.
