Former Minister Johnston Fernando Released on Bail

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Wattala Magistrate’s Court today ordered to release on bail former Minister Johnston Fernando, who had been remanded in connection with allegations of misusing a lorry belonging to the Lanka Sathosa.

The order was issued when the case was taken up before Wattala Magistrate Kanchana N. Silva.

The Magistrate directed that Johnston Fernando be released on a cash bail of Rs. 25,000 and four personal sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

The case has been filed in relation to an investigation conducted by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division into the alleged misuse of a Lanka Sathosa lorry.

In connection with the same incident, legal action has also been instituted against Johnston Fernando’s elder son, Johann Fernando, his younger son, Jerome Fernando, and a former transport manager of the Sathosa institution, among a total of five suspects.
