COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan cricketer Nuwan Thushara today (23) withdrew the petition he had filed before the Colombo District Court, seeking legal relief against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
Thushara had filed the case requesting an interim mandatory order compelling Sri Lanka Cricket to issue a “no‑objection” certificate, which he said was required to enable him to participate in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament and other international premier league competitions.
Appearing on behalf of the petitioner, counsel G. G. Arulpragasam informed court that the complaint had been filed after Sri Lanka Cricket refused to issue the no‑objection certificate necessary for Thushara to take part in the IPL tournament in India.
However, the lawyer told court that several matches of the IPL tournament had already concluded, making it pointless to pursue the petition any further. He said, under the circumstances, his client wished to withdraw the application and requested the court’s permission to do so.
After considering the submissions, the judge granted permission for the petition to be withdrawn and subsequently ordered that the case be dismissed.
