Over 1,200 Merchants Face Legal Action Following Island-Wide Festive Season Food Safety Raids

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Legal action has been initiated against 1,289 merchants following island-wide raids conducted during the New Year season.

The raids were carried out by the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union of Sri Lanka from April 1st to April 18th.

Accordingly, the union reported that nearly 2,114 raids were conducted, resulting in the inspection of 21,796 shops. These efforts led to 3,044 instances of food destruction and 4,308 separate food seizures.

The Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union emphasized that these inspections will continue throughout the festive season to ensure public safety.
