COLOMBO (News 1st) - Litro Gas and Laugfs Gas have announced a significant increase in the prices of domestic LP gas cylinders, effective from midnight yesterday.
For Litro Gas, the price of a 12.5 kg Cylinder has been Increased by Rs. 775, bringing the new price to Rs. 4,765.
The price of a 5 kg Cylinder has been increased by Rs. 308, bringing the new price to Rs. 1,910.
The price of a 2.3 kg Cylinder has been increased by Rs. 140 and the new price is Rs. 890.
Price hikes by Laugfs Gas are as follows. A 12.5 kg LP Gas Cylinder has been increased by Rs. 1,070, bringing the new price to Rs. 5,700.
The price of a 5 kg LP gas Cylinder has been increased by Rs. 428, bringing the new price to Rs. 2,280.
Meanwhile, Litro Gas PLC confirmed that 14,900 metric tonnes of LP gas for the month of April have already arrived in the country, with another 23,100 metric tonnes expected later this month.
Laugfs Gas PLC also reported that a vessel carrying 7,000 metric tonnes of LP gas has docked at the Port of Hambantota and distribution of stocks to the market will begin tomorrow.
Additionally, Minister Vijitha Herath says that 80% of the country's LP gas requirements are currently being supplied through imports from the United States.
Commenting on the availability of LP gas and fuel stocks, the Minister said that the rest of the 20% supply of LP Gas stocks is being supplied from South Africa.
Meanwhile, assuring that there will be no fuel shortage in the country during this festive month, the Minister said that nine shipments carrying Petrol, Diesel and Crude oil are scheduled to arrive in the country within this month.
