Grade 12 Student Killed in Pallekele; Five Injured as Van Plunges 70 Feet in Kotmale

COLOMBO (News 1st); One student died and another was hospitalized following a bus accident in Balagolla, Pallekele. Police confirmed the deceased was a Grade 12 student. The second victim is currently receiving treatment at Kandy Hospital.

Meanwhile, four members of the same family and another person were reported injured when a van fell into a ravine in the Garadi Ella area of Kotmale.

Police say the injured have been admitted to the Kotmale Hospital.

Those injured include a husband, wife, their two children, and another individual.

The accident occurred after the driver reportedly fell asleep while traveling from Nuwara Eliya to Kotmale.

Police added that the van veered off the road in the Garadi Ella area and plunged nearly 70 feet into the ravine.
