COLOMBO (News 1st): The Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) has decided to engage in a symbolic strike today in protest against the current transfer process. Accordingly, the strike will be in effect from 8:00 this morning.

The GMOA stated that this trade union action will not be implemented at any maternity hospitals, children's hospitals, the Apeksha Hospital in Maharagama, specialized kidney units, tri-forces hospitals, or the National Institute of Mental Health.

Additionally, all emergency treatment services will continue across the island without interruption despite the trade union action.

The association further warned that if the Ministry of Health does not provide a positive intervention to resolve these issues, they will take the necessary steps to further intensify their trade union actions.
