Sri Lanka on the Weekly Energy-Saving Holiday Starting Today

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The government mandated holiday aimed at conserving energy comes into effect today.

Commissioner General of Essential Services, Prabath Chandrakeerthi, says that every Wednesday has been declared a holiday to conserve energy.

Chandrakeerthi clarified that essential services including electricity, water, transport, ports, aviation, and healthcare will remain operational. 

Ministry secretaries and department heads have been authorized to maintain necessary operations to ensure these sectors continue to function effectively during the declared public holiday
