Amber Advisory for Warm Weather: Heat Index Expected to Reach Caution Level in Several Areas

COLOMBO (New 1st) - The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber Advisory for Warm Weather. 

According to the Department, Heat index, the temperature felt on human body is likely to increase up to ‘Caution level’ at some places in Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, North-central and North-western provinces and in Monaragala, Mannar and Vavuniya districts.

Those working at job sites are advised to stay well hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade. 

People indoors are encouraged to check on the elderly and those who are unwell. 

Authorities warn that children should never be left unattended inside vehicles. 

Individuals outdoors are advised to limit strenuous activities, seek shade, and remain hydrated. 

The public is also advised to wear lightweight white or light-coloured clothing to stay cool.
