COLOMBO (News 1st): The remains of Nadungamuwa Vijaya Raja, the Royal Tusker that carried the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy for more than 16 years, will be open for public display from tomorrow.

The preserved remains will be displayed at the Colombo National Museum.

Nadungamuwa Vijaya Raja, regarded as the tallest tusker in Asia, passed away on March 7, 2022.

Following his death, and based on a request made by his owner Dr. Harsha Dharmavijaya, the responsibility of preserving the remains of the tusker as a national heritage exhibit was undertaken by the Temple of the Tooth Relic, together with the Department of National Museums of Sri Lanka.

Four years after the tusker’s passing, the preserved remains will now be officially unveiled at the Colombo National Museum, allowing future generations to witness the majestic animal that once played a significant role in Sri Lanka’s cultural and religious heritage.
