EDL Takes Over Electricity Distribution From CEB Under New Power Sector Reforms

Electricity Distribution Lanka (Pvt) Limited says it has assumed responsibility for electricity distribution functions previously carried out by the Ceylon Electricity Board under the power sector reforms introduced through the Electricity Act No. 36 of 2024.

In a statement, the company said the transition forms part of broader reforms aimed at restructuring the electricity sector.

Electricity Distribution Lanka, noted that it has been empowered to implement reforms and operational improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and the quality of services within the electricity distribution network.

The company added that the move is expected to support a more responsive and customer-focused electricity supply service for the public.
