COLOMBO (News 1st); A multi‑day fishing vessel suspected of transporting narcotics and weapons has been seized by the Sri Lanka Navy during a special operation conducted in deep seas south of the island.
Navy Media Spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath said the vessel was intercepted during a naval mission, which uncovered a stock of “suspected narcotics” and a haul of weapons believed to have been on board.
According to the Navy, the intercepted fishing craft is currently being escorted to shore for further investigations and legal proceedings.
The Navy Spokesperson added that the Sri Lanka Navy continues to carry out around‑the‑clock operations across the island’s maritime zones to safeguard national security.
