Search Operations Continue After Fatal Boat Accident

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two people have died after a fishing boat capsized near the Gurunagar pier in Jaffna, authorities confirmed.

The vessel had been travelling from Gurunagar to Palathivu when it met with the accident.

According to reports from the area, three others were rescued and admitted to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital.

Hospital sources said the condition of two of the injured individuals is critical.

Search operations to find those who went missing after being swept into the water are ongoing. 

The Sri Lanka Navy, together with other fishing vessels, has deployed teams to continue rescue efforts in the surrounding waters.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
