CID Extradites "Podi Lassi" from India to Face Charges for Murder and Drug Trafficking

COLOMBO (News 1st); Organized criminal Janith Madushanka de Silva, alias "Podi Lassi," was brought back to the island this morning.

He was escorted by a team of officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who had traveled to India.

Police say that he is considered a criminal involved in numerous offenses, including Murder, drug trafficking, and extortion.

He had been evading the court for a year despite an open warrant issued by the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court for his arrest.

Podi Lassi was arrested in Mumbai, India, on January 16, 2025.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) had recently made a formal request to India to hand him over to Sri Lanka.
