Former Police Inspector Remanded Over W15 Shooting

COLOMBO (News 1st); A former Police Inspector arrested in connection with the shooting incident at the W15 Hotel in Weligama has been remanded until the 5th of next month.

The suspect, Jagath Nishantha, was remanded after being produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court today.

He was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department after arriving in the country yesterday afternoon, following a period overseas.

The shooting occurred on 31 December 2023.

During the incident, a police officer attached to the Colombo Crimes Division was killed, while another individual sustained injuries.
