Government To Establish Regulatory Framework For Taxi Services

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Necessary regulations to establish a formal regulatory framework for taxi services in Sri Lanka have been drafted. 

Manjula Kularatne, Chairman of the National Council on Road Safety, stated that district-level discussions have already commenced with relevant stakeholders to further refine the proposals. 

Key Objectives of the New Regulations will Ensure job stability of taxi drivers, Establishing formal welfare measures for those employed in the sector, Bringing appplication based and traditional taxi services under a unified regulatory eye.

The Chairman noted that the government is expected to issue Gazette on this in the future.
