Matheesha Replacement: Dilshan Madushanka? Decision On Wanindu Hasaranga Pending

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Cricket will wait until February 25 to reach a final decision regarding who will replace Matheesha Pathirana, who was injured during the ongoing T20 World Cup. The governing body has begun evaluating potential options as the team prepares for the Super 8 stage.

According to cricket sources, significant attention is being directed toward pace bowler Dilshan Madushanka, who is under strong consideration to fill the vacancy created by Pathirana’s injury. At the same time, reports indicate that team management is also reassessing the possibility of bringing Wanindu Hasaranga back into the squad. 

Although Hasaranga has not fully recovered from his recent injury, the medical team and team management are expected to closely evaluate his fitness and suitability for the upcoming matches.

SLC sources say the team’s decision will be finalized after Sunday’s Super 8 match against England, a timing influenced by Sri Lanka already having secured qualification to the next round. Officials believe the England fixture will provide clarity on the most strategic replacement based on performance needs and player readiness.
