COLOMBO (News 1st) - The much awaited India-Pakistan T20 match will be played today in a few hours.
The Ministry of Defence announced that a comprehensive security plan is being implemented to conduct the biggest clash of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The decision was made considering the international significance of the tournament, as well as the large number of players, officials, journalists, and spectators arriving from various countries around the world.
This integrated security plan was developed with the contribution of the Tri-Forces, intelligence agencies, and other key stakeholders, and is coordinated by the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry further stated that special security arrangements have been deployed at all stadiums where matches are held, hotels where teams stay, training centers, airports, and designated spectator zones.
Meanwhile, a special security and traffic plan has also been implemented for today's India-Pakistan match.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) F.U. Wootler, said that approximately 2,600 police officers have been deployed for duty.
Additionally, ASP F.U. Wootler, stated that vehicle movement in several roads have been restricted as part of the special traffic plan.
Accordingly, No vehicle will be allowed to enter from the Kettarama Mawatha Junction and from Wilson Perera Mawatha at the Britto Babapulle Junction. However, entry through these two junctions is possible based on a permit issued by Sri Lanka Cricket. Specifically, the road entering towards Babapulle Road from Vincent Perera Mawatha, Grandpass Road, and the Britto Babapulle Junction.
In addition, the roads that will be completely closed to the public are,
-Towards the stadium from near the Babapulle Bridge.
-Towards the stadium from near Sebastian Canal Road.
-Towards the stadium from near the Mellawatta Bridge.
-Towards the stadium from the 100-foot Road and Temple Road Junction.
-The roads leading to the stadium from the Maligawatta Lane by-roads near the stadium will be closed in the afternoon.
-Saddharma Mawatha and Temple Road from Kettarama Junction will also remain closed.
Providing more details on today's match, police spokesman ASP F.U Wootler stated that the all gates of the Premadasa International Stadium will open at 3:00 in the afternoon.
Furthermore, ASP Wootler says that no plastic or glass bottles can be brought inside the stadium. In addition, helmets, jackets, musical instruments and alcohol have also been prohibited at the grounds.
Strict legal action will be taken against those who behaves in a drunken, riotous, or indecent manner.
The match is set to kick-off At the R. Premadasa Stadium, at 7:00 PM today.
