COLOMBO (News 1st); A group of activists visited the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo today to hand over a petition calling for the resignation of the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The petition, which organisers say has received thousands of signatures online, urges that the Chairman step down immediately in the interest of Sri Lanka Cricket, citing concerns raised in recent weeks regarding the administration of the board.
Speaking to the media outside the Presidential Secretariat, members of the group said the petition was addressed to the President and was intended to bring public concerns to the attention of the government.
They also referred to remarks made by the President in Parliament earlier, where he spoke about Sri Lanka Cricket and the allegations of corruption that have been raised in relation to the board.
The group stated that they were unable to meet the President today to formally hand over the petition, but said they intend to return later this week in an effort to present the document directly.
According to the organisers, the petition reflects growing public dissatisfaction over the current state of Sri Lanka Cricket and calls for immediate changes in leadership.
They added that their intention was to act in the interest of the future of the sport in the country and to ensure greater accountability within the administration of cricket.
No official response has been issued so far by Sri Lanka Cricket regarding the petition.
The activists call on the President to appoint a special committee or special commission to investigate the matter.
