Parliament to Debate Bill Abolishing MPs’ Pensions on Feb 17

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The bill to abolish the pensions of Members of Parliament is scheduled to be debated on the 17th of February.
The decision was taken at the party leaders’ meeting held yesterday.
It has been planned to pass the bill on the same day. Once enacted, the pensions currently received by former Members of Parliament and their widows will be abolished.
Information reveals that more than 550 former Members of Parliament and their dependents are presently receiving these pension benefits.
