COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Board of Investment of Sri Lanka says it aims to attract US$ 1.5 billion in foreign direct investment this year.

BOI Chairman Arjuna Herath stated that this year’s investment portfolio includes projects in oil refining by Sinopec, as well as spices and agro-processing, data centres, and online special economic zones.

He noted that Sri Lanka received US$ 1.057 billion in foreign direct investment last year.

According to the Chairman, 186 companies came forward to invest in the country in 2025, with 146 investment projects implemented during the year. The total value of these projects amounted to US$ 1.906 billion.

These included 70 new projects and 76 expansions of existing ventures.

Arjuna Herath said the BOI has created a more investment-friendly environment and strengthened investor confidence through new measures such as monitoring project progress, streamlining the approval process, and working closely with line agencies and regulatory bodies.
