COLOMBO (News 1st): Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya engaged in a series of high‑profile diplomatic meetings on January 20th during her official visit to Switzerland, leveraging the sidelines of the World Economic Forum 2026 in Davos to deepen Sri Lanka’s international partnerships and advance key national priorities.

During the visit, the Prime Minister met with Tharman Shanmugaratnam, President of the Republic of Singapore. She conveyed Sri Lanka’s appreciation for Singapore’s support following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwa, noting the importance of solidarity during moments of national hardship.

The discussion also focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation, reaffirming Sri Lanka’s commitment to expanding ties with Singapore across multiple sectors.

Later, addressing a global audience at the high‑level dialogue on “Tourism as Soft Power and Diplomatic Capital”, Prime Minister Amarasuriya underscored Sri Lanka’s resilient tourism recovery and the critical role of people‑to‑people diplomacy.

On the same day, the Prime Minister held discussions with Asian Development Bank President Masato Kanda at the WEF Congress Centre.

Prime Minister Amarasuriya also met with EU Commissioner Jozef Síkela, where talks centred on deepening cooperation with the European Union in key areas such as education, digitalization, and climate resilience.
