COLOMBO (News1st): Former Minister Nandana Gunathilake has passed away while receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Ragama Hospital.
Gunathilake was 63 years of age, at the time of his demise.
Born on September 7, 1962, in Panadura, Gunathilake entered politics in 1982 through the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).
He contested the 1999 Presidential Election representing the JVP.
Gunathilake served for a long period as a member of the JVP as well as, as its Administrative Secretary.
Later joining the United National Party (UNP), Gunathilake served as the Mayor of the Panadura Urban Council.
In 2009, he held the post of Minister of Tourism and also served as the Acting Minister of Posts and Telecommunications.
