COLOMBO (News1st): The Department of Motor Traffic announced that around 500,000 driving licenses, which could not be issued previously due to a shortage of cards, will be released within the month of March.
The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic, Kamal Amarasinghe, says that these license cards will be sent directly to the applicants' homes via the Department of Post.
The issuance of permanent driving licenses was suspended due to a lack of printing cards.
Accordingly temporary licenses are being issued in the interim.
Required cards have now been imported, and printing is currently underway at three locations.
The printing process is being carried out at the DMT main office in Werahera and the regional centers in Hambantota and Anuradhapura.
