COLOMBO (News 1st); The verdict in the Amarakeerthi Athukorala murder trial has been postponed to February 11, following a decision by the Gampaha High Court today.
The ruling was originally scheduled for today.
The case involves 41 accused individuals, charged by the Attorney General over the killing of former MP Amarakeerthi Athukorala and his personal security officer during the violent unrest on May 9, 2022, in Nittambuwa amid the nationwide protests.
Today’s hearing was convened before a three-judge bench comprising justices Sahan Mapa Bandara, Rashmi Singappuli, and Rasantha Godawela.
Athukorala, who was serving as a Member of Parliament at the time, died in a shooting incident during the chaos, along with his security officer. Several suspects were later arrested in connection with the killings.
