COLOMBO (News 1st); A massive consignment of 11.484 million meters of fabric, donated by the Chinese government for Sri Lanka’s school uniform program, has arrived at the port, the Ministry of Education announced.
The official handover of the fabric stock is scheduled for tomorrow, with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya presiding over the ceremony.
The donation aims to support the distribution of school uniforms to students across the country, including those in government and government-assisted schools, as well as student monks in state-approved Pirivena institutions.
According to the Ministry, 4,418,404 students are eligible to receive school uniforms under this year’s program.
Distribution of the fabric to zonal education offices will commence on January 19, ensuring that students receive the assistance within the month.
