COLOMBO (News 1st); A shocking shooting incident unfolded inside the Kalutara Teaching Hospital, where a 35-year-old remand prisoner was injured while receiving treatment under prison guard supervision.
Police confirmed that the attack occurred in Ward 14.
Investigators suspect the assailant used a revolver in the shooting.
The injured prisoner, a resident of Rajawatta, Kalutara, had been in custody since December 29 on drug-related charges after being arrested by Kalutara South Police.
Following his arrest, he was remanded and later hospitalized due to injuries sustained during a prison brawl, where he was reportedly struck on the forehead with a stone.
The shooting took place while the prisoner was under the protection of prison officers, prompting authorities to launch a full-scale investigation.
