Final Rites of Kalasuri Latha Walpola to be held with full state honours today

COLOMBO (News 1st); The final rites of the 'Nightingale of Sinhala Music' Kalasuri Latha Walpola will be held this evening at Independence Square in Colombo with full state honours.

Her remains will then be taken to the Borella Cemetary for the burial.

The mortal remains of the late legend of Sinhala Music will be laid at the Independence Square premises in Colombo today from 8.30 AM onward, for the public to pay their final respects. 

Infamously known as the Nightingale of Sinhala Music, Kalasuri Latha Walpola passed away on December 27, while receiving treatment at the Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital.

She was 91 years old at the time of her demise.

Kalasuri Latha Walpola, who dedicated over seven decades of her life and the voice to Sinhala music, was a veteran vocalist who left an indelible mark on Sri Lanka’s golden era of cinema and music.

Her remains were placed at a Private Funeral Parlour in Borella for public repsects until last night.

Many artists, friends, politicians, and admirers paid their final respects to her mortal remains even yesterday.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also paid his last respects to the late Kalasuri Latha Walpola last night.
