COLOMBO (News 1st) Sri Lanka’s healthcare sector is entering a new phase of rebuilding and strengthening, with Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa urging newly recruited professionals to rise above routine duties and embrace a national responsibility.
Dr. Jayatissa acknowledged the difficulties faced in recent years due to recruitment restrictions:
"In the past, limitations in recruitment prevented us from delivering the best healthcare services. I am pleased that during this concluding year, we have been able to complete or initiate many of these recruitments across various sectors."
He reminded recruits that they are joining the service at a critical juncture:
"You are entering not in ordinary times. Our country faced economic setbacks and even bankruptcy. While we were regaining stability, we were hit by the global storm. Many essential hospital construction projects were halted midway, but now we have resumed those efforts."
The Minister emphasized that healthcare workers carry a dual responsibility—fulfilling their official duties and contributing to the nation’s recovery:
"This is not just joining the public service. Our challenge is serious. We aim to establish a strong primary healthcare system in Sri Lanka, and you will be key stakeholders in that mission and in rebuilding the country."
