COLOMBO (News 1st); US Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker arrived in Sri Lanka to reinforce the enduring U.S.–Sri Lanka partnership.

Her visit underscores Washington’s commitment to advancing shared goals of security, stability, and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific.

Hooker’s agenda is packed with high-level meetings with Sri Lankan government officials and key stakeholders. The discussions will span a wide spectrum of bilateral priorities—deepening economic and commercial ties, strengthening defense cooperation, and bolstering Sri Lanka’s maritime sovereignty.

These efforts reflect a mutual vision for a free, open, and resilient Indo-Pacific region, where both nations play pivotal roles.

In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung, alongside Hooker, visited Katunayake Air Base to personally thank U.S. Airmen for their critical role in delivering life-saving relief supplies to cyclone-hit communities.

The airlift operation, made possible through years of joint training with Sri Lanka’s Tri-Services, exemplifies the strength of this partnership in times of crisis.

The visit comes as Sri Lanka grapples with the devastating aftermath of Cyclone Ditwah, which has left thousands displaced and infrastructure severely damaged.

The United States has pledged unwavering support—not only for immediate relief but also for long-term recovery—affirming its commitment to stand with the people of Sri Lanka during challenging times.
