COLOMBO (News 1st); In the aftermath of the devastating floods and landslides that crippled Sri Lanka’s infrastructure, the government has announced a medium- and long-term recovery strategy aimed at rebuilding highways, irrigation systems, and other critical facilities.

The plan will mobilize state and private sector resources to restore the nation’s lifelines.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, addressing a high-level discussion with private sector investors at the Presidential Secretariat, revealed that a Joint Management Committee, comprising government officials and private sector representatives, will be appointed with Cabinet approval to oversee fund management and project execution.

The destruction caused by floods and landslides is far greater than what meets the eye, the President emphasized, noting that Treasury funds alone cannot meet the scale of recovery required.

He outlined a multi-pronged approach to raise funds locally and internationally, including contributions from Sri Lankan diaspora, foreign governments, international organizations, and business associations.
