COLOMBO (News 1st) The Government of Japan has announced the deployment of an International Emergency Assistance Team and Medical Team to Sri Lanka’s disaster-hit regions.
This decision follows an assessment by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which identified urgent medical and logistical needs in areas devastated by Cyclone Ditwah.
The team, comprising 31 members—including doctors and nurses registered with Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and JICA—will depart Japan on December 3.
Japan’s commitment stems from humanitarian considerations and its longstanding friendship with Sri Lanka.
