Road Collapse Shuts Colombo–Kandy Route: Yakkala to Thihariya Closed

COLOMBO (News 1st); Traffic along the Colombo–Kandy main road has come to a standstill after a section opposite the Gampaha Wickramarachchi University of Indigenous Medicine in Yakkala began caving in earlier today (30).

Authorities have closed the stretch from Yakkala to Thihariya until further notice to ensure public safety.

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as engineers assess the damage and work on emergency repairs.

Heavy rains and flooding in the region are believed to have contributed to the collapse, adding to the challenges posed by the ongoing disaster situation.
