COLOMBO (News 1st)l Sri Lanka’s flood crisis has reached catastrophic proportions, with official figures confirming 334 deaths and 370 people still missing.
The total number of affected individuals has surged to 1,118,929, spanning 309,607 families across multiple districts.
Authorities report that 196,790 people—representing 55,747 families—are currently housed in safe shelters as rescue and relief operations continue under challenging conditions.
Worst-Hit Districts:
Gampaha: 236,498 affected
Colombo: 218,123 affected
Puttalam: 135,922 affected
Emergency teams, supported by military, are working around the clock to provide food, medical aid, and temporary shelter.
However, rising water levels and damaged infrastructure have made access to certain areas extremely difficult.
Officials warn that the situation remains critical, urging residents in vulnerable zones to cooperate with evacuation directives and avoid unnecessary travel through floodwaters.
