Red Alert: Gampaha Faces Major Flood Threat in Next 6 Hours

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Irrigation Department has issued a Red Alert for the Attanagalu Oya Basin, warning of a major flood situation within the next six hours.

Heavy rainfall continues across multiple catchment areas, and river gauging stations indicate rapidly rising water levels.

According to the advisory, low-lying areas along Attanagalu Oya and Uruwal Oya valleys, including Gampaha town and surrounding regions, face imminent flood danger.

Residents and travelers are strongly urged to exercise extreme caution and evacuate to safer locations immediately.

Disaster Management authorities have been instructed to treat this as a top-priority emergency and deploy all necessary measures to safeguard lives and property. The warning remains valid until 3:00 PM on 30 November 2025.
