COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka is bracing for the full impact of Cyclonic Storm “Ditwah”, now centered approximately 50 km south of Trincomalee.
The storm is expected to move north-northwestwards, according to the Department of Meteorology, which has urged the public to remain vigilant and follow official advisories.
The influence of Ditwah has already unleashed torrential rains, fierce winds, and widespread disruption across the island.
Cloudy skies and gale winds dominate most regions, with intermittent showers and thundershowers forecast to continue.
Very heavy falls above 200 mm likely in Northern, North-Central, Central, North-Western, Sabaragamuwa, and Western provinces.
Above 150 mm expected in Trincomalee, Badulla, Galle, and Matara districts.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm possible in other areas.
Strong winds of 60–70 kmph, gusting up to 80–90 kmph, can be expected across most parts of the island.
Authorities have urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from heavy showers and strong winds, as the storm’s intensity continues to build.
