COLOMBO (News 1st); A woman arrested for allegedly deliberately running over a stray dog with her car has been remanded until December 9 following her appearance before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court.

Police said the incident occurred on November 14 in Ambagasduwa, Pannipitiya, where CCTV footage reportedly shows the suspect intentionally driving over the dog.

The shocking act sparked outrage among residents, who lodged complaints with Kottawa Police, leading to legal action.

The dog, affectionately known as “Blackie”, was a beloved presence in the community.

Animal welfare advocates say this case marks a historic moment for Sri Lanka.

Police confirmed that the suspect was produced in court yesterday and ordered to remain in custody until further proceedings.

Animal rights groups hailed the decision as a landmark step toward justice.
