COLOMBO (News 1st); The list of 350 medicines with maximum prices stipulated was tabled in Parliament today.
The Chairman of the National Medicines Regulatory Authority, Specialist Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, stated that accordingly, the prices of many types of medicines have decreased by various percentages, subject to a maximum reduction of 40 percent.
The price of Paclitaxel medicine, administered to cancer patients, has been reduced from Rs. 42,000 to Rs. 26,332.
The price of another medicine given to cancer patients, the Cisatracurium Besilate injection, has been reduced from Rs. 3,157 to Rs. 2,610.
The Adalimumab injection, has been reduced from Rs. 74,500 to Rs. 40,717.
The price of the blood pressure medicine Losartan Potassium has been reduced from Rs. 11 to Rs. 8.
The National Medicines Regulatory Authority stated that the price of Mebendazole , used for parasitic worm infections, has been reduced from Rs. 83 to Rs. 50.
