Ten Arrested After Mob Frees Suspect During Liquor Raid

COLOMBO (News 1st): Ten individuals have been taken into custody following a violent confrontation with police officers during an anti-illicit liquor operation in the Ramanadanpuram area, near Sudalakulam.

According to police sources, the incident occurred when officers apprehended a suspect involved in the illegal production or distribution of alcohol. A group of residents reportedly intervened, assaulting the officers and forcibly freeing the suspect, who subsequently fled the scene.

Two police officers sustained injuries during the altercation and were admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital for treatment.

Authorities confirmed that the arrested individuals include five men and five women, all residents of Ramanadanpuram.

They are expected to be presented before the Kilinochchi Magistrate’s Court today.
