COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Navy has arrested 35 Indian fishermen for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing activities within Sri Lankan territorial waters.

According to Navy Spokesperson Commander Buddika Samapath, the arrests were made during special search operations conducted last night in the northern seas, particularly in the Kankesanthurai maritime zone.

The Navy also seized four fishing vessels used by the suspects during the operation.

Authorities stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal fishing, which poses a threat to Sri Lanka’s marine resources and the livelihoods of local fishermen.
