COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s nationwide mission to eradicate narcotics recorded significant success on its first day, with police seizing 2 kilograms and 422 grams of crystal methamphetamine (Ice) during extensive raids.
According to police, 971 raids were conducted between 12:00 noon yesterday and 6:00 a.m. today, under the directives of the Inspector General of Police and the supervision of the Deputy Inspector General heading the Narcotics Bureau.
Key highlights of the operation:
351 raids targeted heroin traffickers.
330 raids uncovered Ice-related activities.
Two major seizures in Wattala yielded 1.480 kg and 797 grams of Ice.
Cannabis eradication efforts destroyed 97,283 plants.
10 individuals addicted to drugs were referred for rehabilitation.
